About the Program

Every other year following the general election, the Legislative Service Commission sponsors an orientation program to help equip newly elected members of the General Assembly for their upcoming legislative work. The program offers presentations on Ohio's law-making process, including how to transform an idea into a bill, how to read and understand a bill, legislative committee protocol, procedures for House and Senate floor sessions, and the partisan and nonpartisan staff resources that are available to General Assembly members. The program also includes presentations on a variety of important topics, such as the state budget, Medicaid, school funding, public records law, and legislative ethics.

The Commission has opened the orientation program to all new and current members of the General Assembly. Orientation affords all members an opportunity to meet other legislators and key legislative staff in an informal setting. Many presentations and speakers may be of interest to any member.
