Additional Information
Formerly known as the Ohio Construction Industry Examining Board--changed by Sub. S.B. 179, 125th General Assembly. The licensing functions of the Board are scheduled to expire under R.C. 101.62 on 12/31/2026.
Qualifications
The Board is created within the Department of Commerce, and the Director of Commerce appoints all members, who must be Ohio residents. Board consists of 4 sections: Administrative; Plumbing and Hydronics; Electrical; and Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning (HVAC), and Refrigeration. Plumbing and Hydronics Section consists of 5 members: 4 plumbing contractors and 1 plumbing inspector employed by the Department of Commerce, a municipal corporation, or a health district. Of the 4 plumbing contractor members, 2 must be plumbing contractors who are signatories to agreements with plumbers' unions, and 2 must be plumbing contractors who have no affiliation with any plumbers' union. The Electrical Section consists of 5 members: 1 electrical inspector employed by the Department of Commerce, a municipal corporation, or a county, 2 electrical contractors who have no affiliation with any electricians' union, and 2 electrical contractors who are signatories to agreements with electricians' unions. The Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Section consists of 5 members: 1 HVAC and refrigeration inspector employed by the Department of Commerce or a municipal corporation, 2 HVAC or refrigeration contractors who have no affiliation with any union representing HVAC or refrigeration tradespersons, and 2 HVAC or refrigeration contractors who are signatories to agreements with unions representing HVAC or refrigeration tradespersons. The Administrative Section consists of the Director of Commerce or the Director's designee, 1 representative of the public who is not a member of any group any section of the Board certifies, and 1 member of each other Board section selected annually by that section to serve a 1-year term.
