Qualifications
Two members of the House of Representatives, both of whom shall not be members of the same political party, appointed by the Speaker. The minority leader of the House of Representatives may recommend to the Speaker a member of the minority leader's political party to serve on the committee. Two members of the Senate, both of whom shall not be members of the same political party, appointed by the President of the Senate. The minority leader of the Senate may recommend to the President a member of the minority leader's political party to serve on the committee. The Superintendent of Public Instruction, or the State Superintendent's designee; the following members appointed by the State Superintendent: (a) a classroom teacher who provides instruction in an elementary school; (b) a classroom teacher who provides instruction in a high school; (c) an individual with experience in providing services to students identified as gifted in superior cognitive ability and specific academic ability fields; (d) an individual with experience in providing special education or related services to children with disabilities; (e) an individual representing a chartered nonpublic school; (f) a representative of the business community; (g) the parent of a child enrolled in any of grades kindergarten through 12; a representative of a community school; two school district superintendents; and one school principal. The school district superintendents and school principal must represent urban, suburban, and rural school districts.
