LSC Career Opportunities

Benefits and Restrictions

Benefits

LSC employees are unclassified state employees, meaning that they are not in the state classified civil service system. Employees are eligible for the standard benefits available to unclassified state employees, including the following:

  • Membership in the Public Employees Retirement System
  • Health insurance
  • Vision and dental insurance after one year of employment
  • Flexible spending accounts
  • Life insurance

Additionally, LSC periodically conducts in house professional development seminars, and staff members also have the opportunity to interact with national legislative organizations, serve on their committees, and attend their conferences.

Restrictions

As a nonpartisan agency, the LSC staff is responsible for serving all members of the General Assembly. Therefore, LSC employees must agree to certain restrictions, such as not engaging in partisan political activities or issue advocacy during the period of their employment. Because LSC is nonpartisan, changes in political control of the General Assembly have not affected its employees.
